Director Gil Yaron had rehearsed us
And the audience arrived

The amazing Bowen Island musicians

Pauline Le Bel, as Raiva, uses songs and words to craft the story of Bowen from the dawn of the Universe...

... to modern times. She is interrupted by young Duncan, a teen who hates living on Bowen. Raiva and Duncan are swept back in time to hear the voices of his great-great grandparents, Duncan & Laura
As Raiva and Duncan watch Laura is waiting for Duncan to ask a question.

His dream is to marry Laura and move to a property he just purchased on Bowen Island

Laura agrees. That's the deed in Duncan's pocket

The young couple is welcomed to Bowen by Mr. and Mrs. Dorman
Young Duncan hears his great great grandmother talk of a settler's hard life...

She sings about it too

Laura's daughter (Duncan's great grandmother), Marion, appears as a saucy 16 year old girl who does not like delivering milk...

... but things improve when the work is done
Marion does like a party. This is young Duncan's great granny!

Duncan travels Howe Sound on the cruise ship, Britannia, with Captain Cates. Today Snug Cove is at the foot of "Cates Hill." Captain sings a fine hornpipe

Song: "The whistle of the ferry keeps islanders moving around."
During the war, Mary Marshall agreed to skipper the Sannie Boats... and to marry the owner, Tommy White.

Stan James from West Vancouver wanted to build a subdivsion with 2,000 houses, and develop a ski hill on Mt. Gardner.

Bowen has always been divided over the greens and the 'moderates.' Once it all becames quite violent for the little Island. A true story too

After several adventures, Duncan is abandoned by Raiva and encounters the forest dwellers. He learns he must confront the terrible giant woman, Tsonokwa
Vireo is not Tsonokwa, but she enjoys teasing Duncan

The forest people prepare Duncan for Tsonokwa with a ceremony

Be sure to see the show next year and find out about what happens when Tsonokwa and Duncan meet

The twilight performances are hard to photograph, but the time and setting was pure magic

Several wonderful young Islanders joined us as small forest dwellers

And too soon, it was over

Pauline is celebrated!

To my surprise, the three Collins sisters attended the matinee show. In real life, Duncan's great-great grandmother was their mother, Laura! And Laura's daughter, Marion, is the sister standing on the left

Marion and I compared her real experiences with my role of her. This was an amazing meeting. I will never forget that sunny afternoon in the Crippen Park meadow.

This is my Mom!

Click the image for a short Quicktime clip of one of Pauline's songs, What is the Island Dreaming Now? The music was memorable and truly moving.
